Our client is an MP. He was accused of sexually assaulting his daughter while he was stationed in Germany.
This case, like many has a long, drawn-out history. My client had been married to a British national for over a decade when these allegations arose. COVID was in full swing, his wife was in Texas administering his deceased father’s estate while his stepdaughter was living in Britain. Due to a myriad of disagreements, our client and his wife entered into a separation agreement. Then, the mother thought it best to send her daughter to live in Germany. Her apparent reasoning was that it was easier to get her to the US from Germany than from the UK due to COVID restrictions.
One month into the stepdaughter’s stay, our client woke up to find her troubled on the couch. She began to describe a sexual dream she had about him. Our client immediately called his wife. Her reaction was curious. She didn’t seem surprised, upset or at all bothered by the situation. She laughed about it. Our client on the other had was very upset. He made immediate plans to get her back to the US as soon as possible.
Upon arriving in the States with his stepdaughter, our client began to realize that all the time he thought his wife was working on administrating his deceased father’s estate, she was actually engaging in multiple affairs. He finally had enough. He was going to throw her out of the house. Her response was to call the cops. When the cops could do nothing for her but get her some information, she called upon her daughter to explain the dream. Her daughter, wanting her mother’s approval, stepped forward…turning the once dream into a false reality.
As it turned out, our investigation into this case revealed that the alleged victim (the step daughter), read one particular book over and over and over again. The book was called the Hazelwood and it drew some very stark parallels to her own life. However, the most interesting thing about the book was how it turned a fantasy into reality.
During trial I was able to expose the alleged victim for the fantastical liar she is while exposing her motive to fabricate her lies. Ultimately I was able to get her to admit that she didn’t know if it was a dream or not, and that she had in fact set that to the forensic interviewer at the Child Advocacy Center where she was first interviewed. Our client was found Not Guilty of the Charge and its specifications.
