Proof lies on him who asserts, not on him who denies. The concept is that one is innocent until proven guilty. Regardless of what the law says about reasonable doubt, there is an unwritten presumption within the ranks of the military that if you are charged with sexual assault, then you are guilty. The stakes are your life! Your military counsel works for the same military that charged you. Consider that as you choose who represents you in your potentially life altering case.

A brief history of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson

US Air Force

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson or JBER as it is popularly known, is a joint base of the U.S Air Force and the U.S Army. It was created in 2010 by merging Elmendorf Air Force Base with Fort Richardson.

Construction on the Elmendorf Airfield started in 1940. The air field was named after Captain Hugh M. Elmendorf who died in 1933 after the experimental fighter he was testing near Wright Field, Ohio, crashed.

Air Corps personnel started arriving at the air field a few months after construction began. Later that year, Elmendorf Field was re-designated as Fort Richardson. In 1947, the army moved its units to a new Fort Richardson nearby and handed over control of the air field to the Air Force, which renamed it as Elmendorf Air Force Base.

The air force base was an important pivot in North American defenses during the Cold War and the Korean War. At its peak in 1957, nearly 200 fighter planes were assigned to the air base, which were managed by 18 aircraft control and radar systems.

Current status of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson

As per the recommendations of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission Report of 2005, Elmendorf Air Base and Fort Richardson were merged to create the new Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

JBER is the largest installation of the Air Force in Alaska. It is also home to the headquarters of the Alaskan Command, the U.S Army Alaska, the 11 th Air Force, the 3 rd Wing, the Alaskan NORAD Region, the 4 th Brigade Combat Team, the Alaska Air National Guard and other important units.

The 673 rd Air Base Wing was designated as JBER's new host wing and it took on the installation management functions of Elmendorf Air Base's 3 rd Wing and the U.S Army Garrison at Fort Richardson. The 673 rd Air Base Wing comprises of over 5500 enlisted members and civilian employees. It is also responsible for providing medical care to more than 35,000 enlisted members, their dependents and retirees who live across Alaska.
