ABOUT ATTORNEY NICHOLAS C. DAUSCHMIDT

FORMER DEFENSE COUNSEL, PROSECUTOR, AND SPECIAL VICTIMS COUNSEL

Nicholas “Nick” DauSchmidt, Attorney at Law, is based out of Vicenza, Italy. He serves as Of Counsel to the Joseph Jordan UCMJ Law Group and is a former judge advocate (JAG) with over twelve years of experience as a military attorney in uniform. Although based in Europe, Attorney DauSchmidt defends ALL service members against violations of the UCMJ worldwide.

Attorney DauSchmidt joined the Joseph Jordan UCMJ Law Group in 2025 and is fully dedicated to seeking justice for Soldiers, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, Airmen, Marines, and Guardians. The addition of Attorney DauSchmidt expands the already successful legal practice of Attorney Jordan with a foothold in Europe—it is the first and only of its kind in Italy. This addition expands the legal practice to include VA disability compensation, divorce and child custody issues, parental child abduction, immigration advice, civilian employment concerns, and other legal matters unique to American Service-Members, Civilians, and their families in Europe. Attorney DauSchmidt brings with him an extensive network of private investigators and European licensed attorneys across the continent.

MILITARY JUSTICE SUCCESS AND FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE

As a former military defense counsel, special victims counsel, and prosecutor, Attorney DauSchmidt has experience representing all sides of a complex military justice case. While on active duty, Nick gained extensive experience advocating for the accused, the chain of command, and the alleged victim. He did this not only at trial but also in administrative separations boards, Article 15’s, General Officer Memoranda of Reprimand, and investigations of all types and levels. Attorney DauSchmidt began his military justice time in the extremely busy backwoods jurisdiction of Fort Polk, Louisiana (now Fort Johnson) and had his last military justice assignment as the Senior Trial Counsel in Italy. It was in this role that he secured the local command’s first court-martial victory in two years.

Furthermore, Nick can personally relate to your situation, as he himself was the victim of command overreach, abuse of power, and inappropriate decision making while serving overseas. Decisions which not only impacted him personally, but also his young child. For over two years Nick fought back on multiple fronts in Italy, Germany, Romania, and the United States. He prevailed in all cases and secured what is most important in life—one’s family.

Attorney DauSchmidt brings a wealth of knowledge of Italy, Germany, and the European continent. His extensive network of professionals can assist with representation in foreign courts, investigation and evidence gathering overseas, document translation, immigration concerns, and other matters. With over eight years of living in Italy and Germany, Europe is familiar territory; however, Nick’s military career has also taken him all over Asia and Africa.

Nick understands the unique interplay of command decisions on your life while serving overseas. He understands how some commanders and their attorneys simply protect themselves and how your status as a Service-Member can be used against you in a foreign jurisdiction, leaving you particularly vulnerable. Nick will help you fight back and win on all fronts—foreign and domestic

MILITARY EXPERIENCE

Attorney DauSchmidt first joined the military as an enlisted Soldier in the National Guard in 2004. Later, he commissioned as an officer and judge advocate in the reserves, serving in both a drilling status and multiple mobilizations. Transferring to the active component in 2016, Attorney DauSchmidt knows and understands all three of the components in which his clients might serve. Attorney DauSchmidt deployed three times, working on some of the Army’s most sensitive and complex missions. These include the Syria Train & Equip mission, battlefield evidence collection and prosecution of ISIS detainees, and closing millions worth in government contracts from the Afghanistan withdrawal. Nick has advised commanders at all levels, from company commanders to two-star general officers.

Attorney DauSchmidt remains serving in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Field Artillery officer.
