"Ei Incumbit Probation Qui Dicit."

Proof lies on him who asserts, not on him who denies. The concept is that one is innocent until proven guilty. Regardless of what the law says about reasonable doubt, there is an unwritten presumption within the ranks of the military that if you are charged with sexual assault, then you are guilty. The stakes are your life! Your military counsel works for the same military that charged you. Consider that as you choose who represents you in your potentially life altering case.

Camp Lejeune

A Brief Overview of Camp Lejeune

Construction of this camp began in 1941 as a direct response to the Congress's authorization of a naval building program. Post WWII, the American military discovered that increasing focus on amphibious assault and defense would help strengthen the country's defense systems significantly. After an aerial survey revealed the long stretch of land alongside the beach here, the authorities decided to establish a base in this location.

Camp Lejeune was primarily a training center for the armed forces during the World War. Later it came to be an important training center for the Fleet Marine Force alongside other units. Its state- of- art training facilities for Urban Terrain Operations are world renowned and troops from other countries visit the Camp on a regular basis to take advantage of the unique training opportunities available here. NATO sponsored exercises are also a regular feature here at Camp Lejeune.

Camp Lejeune is supported by 5 other Marine Corps Air stations- Camp Geiger, New River, Stone Bay, Camp Johnson and Courthouse Bay. A brand new training area has been recently added to this Marine Corps base.

Camp Lejeune in the News

In 2007, Camp Lejeune was in the news after a tragic incident involving a Lance Corporal came to light. Maria Frances Lauterbach, a United States Marine stationed here went missing in December of this year. LCpl. Lauterbach was eight months pregnant at the time and her burned remains were later found in the backyard of a fellow serviceman Cesar Armando Laurean. In 2010, Laurean was convicted of murder. This incident is one of the primary reasons for the increased focus on preventing sexual harassment and assault in military establishments across the United States. More recently, Camp Lejeune Marines were court martialled after a YouTube video of them urinating on the corpses of dead Taliban fighters spread like wildfire.

Military life can be very challenging and servicemen and women are often under extreme scrutiny on a day to day basis. Thanks to the increasing focus on restoring the defense services' flawless image, there is a chance that personnel may face serious consequences for relatively minor violations.
